RAF Hemswell Day

The annual RAF Hemswell Day service is always held on the third Wednesday in September. The event is held at the heart of RAF Hemswell, the Station Memorial at the site of the former Parade Ground.

The Memorial was erected in 1995 to commemorate all who served at RAF Hemswell from 1937 to 1967 during its 30-year life as a major RAF Bomber Command Station. The memorial was unveiled in September 1995 by the late Mrs Kath Edgson of Horncastle, sister of Ronald Herd, one of the sixteen young RAF men killed in action on 29 September 1939, the first of RAF Hemswell’s many loses during World War 2. More information about the Station Memorial can be found on the Imperial War Museum's website - click here.
